The idea of correlating places of archaeological interest included in the territory of the Comunità Montana dei Laghi bergamaschi was promoted following the important discoveries made in Casazza (Roman settlement of Cavellas), Lovere (Roman necropolis of the 1st-4th centuries AD) and Predore (baths of the Roman villa), as part of a project financed by Fondazione Cariplo (Percorsi archeologici alla scoperta dell’identità culturale del territorio dei laghi bergamaschi, 2013-2016).

This was followed by a cultural enhancement programme, drawn up from 2013 onwards thanks to the strong will of the then Archaeological Superintendency of Lombardy and the local administrations involved, to which the Tadini Academy of Lovere also joined in at an early stage. Its archaeological heritage bears witness to the vitality of 19th-century antiquarianism, the same culture that led to the first discoveries in the Bergamo area.

The development of this work led, in 2018, to the sharing of a network project that saw in the same year the adhesion of the Municipality of Parre, for Parra-Oppidum degli Orobi, a settlement founded in the Iron Age, also mentioned in ancient sources, linked to the exploitation of mineral resources in the area; in 2020, to the entrance of the Municipality of Sovere, for the area of archaeological interest of Madonna della Torre and the Parco dei laghi fossili, which preserves an exceptional deposit of sediments deposited on the bottom of a lake that existed in this area in the Pleistocene era. With these two new members, and with the enhancement of the Castelliere – Pandolfo Malatesta’s siege camp dating back to 1414 in Lovere, the chronological horizon of the Roman age has been crossed, but always respecting and pursuing the aims of research and enhancement of the historical and cultural identity of the area.
